Passenger and cargo capacity of Mazda SUVs
The 2019 Mazda SUV lineup starts with the Mazda CX-3 and goes up from there with the Mazda CX-5 and the feature-full Mazda CX-9. Those are already arranged in terms of both starting price and size, but we will get into it and show you the differences between all three of these SUVs as we explore the passenger and cargo capacity of Mazda SUVs.
How many people can fit inside Mazda SUVs?
Both the Mazda CX-3 and the Mazda CX-5 offer two rows of seating and allow for two people up front and three in the back for a max passenger capacity of five people. The Mazda CX-9 is larger and with two in front, three in the second row, and two in the third row, it can provide max seating for seven people.

Larger families will want to opt for the Mazda CX-9 otherwise it comes down to style and cargo capacity, the latter of which we will get into below. It’s worth noting too that in terms of legroom, the first and second rows of the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9 are nearly identical, but the Mazda CX-3 is a little more compact in the second row.
Cargo room of Mazda SUVs
The cargo room is where you can see some real difference. First though, to give you some idea of the scale of these three SUVs, the Mazda CX-3 is just over 14 feet long, the Mazda CX-5 is under 15 feet long, and the Mazda CX-9 is about 16.5 feet long. On to cargo where we will include a cargo capacity with all seats up and all seats down.
2019 Mazda CX-3
Seats Up: 12.4 Cubic-Feet
Seats Down: 44.5 Cubic-Feet
2019 Mazda CX-5
Seats Up: 30.9 Cubic-Feet
Seats Down: 59.6 Cubic-Feet
2019 Mazda CX-9
Seats Up: 14.4 Cubic-Feet
Seats Down: 71.2 Cubic-Feet
Note that the reason why the Mazda CX-9 appears to have less cargo room with the seats up than the Mazda CX-5 is because it has a third row of seats back there. If you just fold down the third row, you’ll still have room for five passengers and 38.2 cubic-feet of cargo.
