Mazda is not going into Sport mode
In recent years, most Mazda models have been equipped with Sport mode as a standard feature. What is Sport mode, how does it work, and when should you use it? We have answers to all of those questions here, and we will even tell you what to do when your Mazda is not going into Sport mode.
How does Mazda Sport mode work?
Sport mode increases the throttle response of your Mazda while also adjusting the shift points of your automatic transmission. This makes for improved acceleration, vehicle reaction times, and a ride that is overall more fun.
To engage Sport mode, all you have to do is flick the switch up. Sport mode should highlight on your dash to indicate that you are in fact in Sport mode. You will also likely hear your Mazda shift down and start to rev a little higher.
To disengage Sport mode, flick the switch again or flick it down. Sport mode will also disengage if you active cruise control. When your Mazda is started, Sport mode is automatically left off regardless of what mode your Mazda was in when it was turned off.
When to use Sport mode
Sport mode is there for you if you want a little more acceleration. Whether you are taking your Mazda through some twisty roads, have it out at a track day, making a pass, or accelerating down an onramp, Sport mode can give you the extra power that you need.
Sport mode does have some minor drawbacks that you should be aware of though. For starters, you will likely notice a decrease in fuel efficiency. Sport mode can also lead to tire slipping in wet or snowy conditions. Using it in these conditions is not advised.
Why does your Mazda not go into Sport mode?
If you flick Sport mode on, but it just flashes and doesn’t engage, it can be due to a wide variety of reasons. Sport mode will not engage if any of the following systems are active: ABS (Anti-Lock Brakes), TCS (Traction Control System), or DSC (Dynamic Stability Control).
Sport mode also will not engage if cruise control is active or if the steering wheel is currently being operated abruptly.
For best results, only activate Sport mode either when stopped or while driving in a straight line before accelerating.
