What’s new for the 2018 Mazda CX-5?
The Mazda CX-5 is fresh off its 2017 redesign. You would expect not much to change, especially since the 2017 model came out a little late, but you would be wrong. Mazda has some big changes in store for everyone’s favorite crossover. See what we mean as we explore what’s new for the 2018 Mazda CX-5.
Engine improvements for the Mazda CX-5
You may have been hoping that the Mazda CX-5 would get the same turbo option that the 2018 Mazda6 is getting, but as of now, that isn’t the case. This is likely because the Mazda6 doesn’t have to accommodate an all-wheel-drive option, so there is a little less engineering involved.

With that said, the Mazda CX-5 is still getting some improvements with its current engine. Though some small changes are being made to reduce engine friction, the biggest change comes from the new cylinder deactivation feature.
This is the first time that such a feature has been available on a four-cylinder engine in North America. You can expect to see the biggest improvements from cylinder deactivation to occur in highway mpg. The mpg numbers have not yet been released by the EPA for 2018.
Trim levels improvements for the 2018 Mazda CX-5
The Mazda CX-5 will retain its three trim levels for 2018 starting with the Sport and moving up from there with the Touring and the Grand Touring trim levels. With that said, the Sport and the Touring are receiving the biggest improvements. Take a look at some of the changes below.
