WHY IS THE STEERING WHEEL IN MY MAZDA HARD TO TURN?

February 4th, 2016 by

Mazda vehicles are without a doubt some of the most fun-to-drive cars on the road, but if there’s something off or wrong with your car then that can make things a little less enjoyable. One thing that can be particularly annoying is a steering wheel that is difficult to turn. Don’t just go wondering why is the steering wheel in my Mazda hard to turn — here’s some reasons why!

WHAT DOES A HARD TO TURN STEERING WHEEL MEAN?

Is your steering wheel in a Mazda difficult to turn or use? First, you’re going to want to check to see if your power steering fluid is low, especially if you hear a whining when you turn the wheel. You should also check the ground to see if there’s a leak in your system somewhere. The color will usually be somewhere between clear and amber — and it will have a distinct smell that some think resembles burnt marshmallows.

STEERING WHEEL DIFFICULT TO TURN WHEN CAR FIRST STARTS

If your steering wheel is hard to turn at first, but gets easier as the car runs, then it could mean that you have a damaged steering rack. This rack works with your power steering system to allow you to usually move your wheel with ease. As your vehicle warms up, the rack can become warm and well lubricated, making it a bit easier to turn.

Why is the steering wheel in my Mazda hard to turn?CHECK YOUR TIRES!
Another common reason for difficulty turning the steering wheel is very easy to solve, and it’s low tire pressure. How long has it been since the last time you checked to make sure everything was inflated properly? One or more tire with low air pressure can cause your steering wheel to be hard to turn, but thankfully this can be fixed by just inflating them to the proper pressure.
