2016 Mazda CX-9 vs 2015 Mazda CX-9
Usually when you compare one model year to the previous one, you’ll see some differences here and there -- and sometimes there will be a couple of major changes. However, with the 2016 Mazda CX-9 vs 2015 Mazda CX-9 that is not the case. While there still is a consistency of quality between these two, there’s also many changes and upgrades happening to the 2016 Mazda CX-9.
So let’s start with some of the similarities between these two. The Mazda CX-9 is keeping its approximate size and seating capacity for seven passengers. The Mazda CX-9, whether you look at the 2016 or 2015 model, is a family vehicle through and through. Its spacious interior is inviting, and can be used for a comfortable weekend trip.

Differences between the 2016 Mazda CX-9 and 2015 CX-9
One of the differences you’ll notice first between the 2016 Mazda CX-9 and 2015 CX-9 is the reworked body styling. The 2016 CX-9 has been given the KODO Design treatment that Mazda has been gifting to all its models, and the 2016 CX-9 benefits from it quite a bit. It looks sleek, sporty, intimidating, and has an air of luxury about it. We loved how the old CX-9 looked, but we’re also excited to see the all-new 2016 CX-9 hit our lot.
Apart from just some stylistic differences, the other major change for the CX-9 is what is powering it. Replacing the 3.7L V6 will be a direct-injection, turbocharged 2.5L I-4 that outputs 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Mazda estimates around a 20 percent bump in efficiency, so we’re hoping to see the 2016 CX-9 rock an MPG rating closer to 30 on the highway. No towing numbers have been released yet, but we also think it’s realistic to expect around 3,500 lbs max trailer weight -- since this was offered on the 2015 CX-9.
